Abstract
Sporocytes of Capparis micracantha DC. were studied using the modified acetocarmine squash technique to know its chromosome number and to describe its meiotic behavior C. micracantha has a chromosome number 2n=26. Most of the cell at diakinesis have 1311 configuration (75.24%) and the 1211 + 21 confuguration (25.58%). Normal metaphase I, anaphase I, telophase I were 88.43%, 62.84% and 86.34%, respectively. At metaphase I laggards (11.12%) and non-congression (0.7%) were noted. anaphase I has laggards (20.13%), bridges (19.44%) and non-congression (7.29%). Telophase I has laggards at 13.6%. Higher normal cell frequency were observed at meiosis II, metaphase II (96.98%). anaphase II (81.66%) and telophase II (100%). Laggards were pbserved at 3.08% at metaphase II, 12.65% at anaphase II and none in telophase II Non-congression was found at 12.50% in anaphase II. Average percent pollen fertility average 93.61%
