Abstract

The plant practice was conducted in Sensient technologies (Phils.) Incorporated, a specialty chemicals company that concentrates on core technologies and markets where it can add value, located in Laguna International Industrial Park, Barangay Mamplasan, Bifian, Laguna from May 16 to June 9, 2012. The student-trainee completed 150 hours of training under the Research and Development Department and the Quality Assurance Department where the trainee performed different inspection and routine operations such as proper sampling, physicochemical analyses, microbiological analyses, and sensory evaluation from the raw materials up to the final goods. She also performed reformulation procedures for new products, filing of records, labeling, and packaging. The trainee was exposed to the actual production process and was familiarized with several pieces of equipment in the manufacturing lines. In all, the plant practice allowed the trainee to apply the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired from the University into actual processes in a food company. The practicum broadened her practical experience and knowledge of the operations in food processing and enhanced her outlook as a BS Food Technology student.
