Abstract
The pili (Canarium ovalum Engl.) is composed of three sexes male female and hermaphrodite. Male trees do not bear fruit but are highly common. Starch gel electrophoresis was used to determine if any differences exist in peroxidase banding patterns between the sexes of pili. One peroxidase band was resolved for all sexes, with no significant differences found. The average Rf value was 0.467. Band intensities between trees were found to be significantly different, but this was attributed to the maturity of the leaf sample rather than the sex of the three. Reasons for this were discussed, and recommendations were given.
