Abstract

Morphological scoring has long been commonly used by hog farmers to easily evaluate one's pig. An existing hog data coming from Batangas and Pangasinan was analyzed for this study. The pigs were subjected to morphological scoring and the different reproductive traits were obtained. The characteristics that passed the 80% criteria was then classified as predominant traits. It was therefore found out that the type of ear shape and orientation in Landrace and ear characteristics and jowl type in Large White can be used as a new criterion in selecting gilts.
