Abstract

The practicum was held at the Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory, Department of Science and Technology Region IV-A, Jamboree Road, Timugan, LosBanos Laguna. The 160 hours was completed on July, 2014. The trainee was assigned in three areas: microbiology laboratory, chemistry laboratory and in the office. In the microbiology laboratory, the trainee observed and assisted in the analyses, sample preparations, and media preparations. The analyses were bacteriological examination of water and wastewater, potability tests, heterotrophic plate count, aerobic plate count, coliform count and detection of Staphylococcus aureus. In the chemistry laboratory, the trainee observed and assisted in several tests including digestion of sample for total metal content of wastewater and processed water and crude protein determination using semi-micro Kjeldahl method. The last part of the practicum was allotted for office works where the trainee assisted on various office works. At the end of the 160 hours practicum, the trainee applied the lessons and skills learned in class, gained hands on experience in a testing laboratory, analyzed the various practices and procedures involved in a testing laboratory, and achieved self-confidence and proper work attitudes.
