Abstract

The plant practice was conducted at the research and development department of Blaine Food corporation from April 17 to May 17, 2013. The company is under Blaine Corporation, a group of companies that cater in the filed of animal health, food and personal care. In this department, the trainee was able to develop proper work ethics, apply the knowledge she acquired from the university and learn about the different practices set by the department. The student-trainee learned to be professional and managed to get along with her supervisor, co-workers and co-interns. Her knowledge and background on laboratory techniques and food processing were applied in the conduct of the practicum. The student-trainee developed a color formulation for a new product and created duplicates of other flavor profiles. Moreover, the trainee gained work values necessary when working in the research and development department of a food processing company. She was readily independent after a few days of supervision and applied her creativity in developing products assigned to her. The hands-on experience in the research department enhanced the trainee's interest in pursuing a career in this field.
