Abstract

The major practice was conducted at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort (VEPAR) located at the border of San Pablo City, Laguna and Tiaong, Quezon from April to May 2011. During the major practice, the student took an active participation in the three phases of landscaping i.e., design, implementation and maintenance in various sites of VEPAR. Base mapping was done to familiarize the student on the information that affect the design made by a landscape architect and to interpret landscape plans. The student took part in the implementation of the hardscape plan including the transplanting of the African oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) at the coffee shop which approximately costs Php 320,240.00. Maintenance operations were focused at the welcome lawn of the resort which involved weeding, irrigation, pruning, mowing, replanting, nutrient management and, pest and disease management. A cost analysis of the maintenance operations showed that the estimated monthly cost for an area of approximately 800m2 is Php 24,631.00. Problems encountered were given recommended solutions accordingly. At the end of the major practice, the student acquired supervisory skills and valuable knowledge on the field practices in various landscape processes.
