Abstract
Investigation on the flexural strength of concrete using coconut shell as coarse aggregate was the focus of this study. A control group with no replacement, and trial mixes where the amount of aggregates in volume were partially replaced by 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of coconut shell aggregates (CSA) were prepared. The flexural strength of concrete was determined using center-point loading test as per ASTM 293. The results suggest that increasing the amount of CSA causes a decrease on the flexural strength of concrete. The flexural strength of concrete with CSA conforms to limits for normal strength concrete but did not satisfy minimum requirements for public road works and highway bridges.
