Abstract

Forty-two intact, household pet cats, of varying age and of both sexes from Batong Malake, Los Baños, Laguna were used in this study. These animals were apparently healthy and spend most of the time inside at the time of the study. Blood samples were obtained and was placed in lavender and red capped vacuum tubes for serologic and routine hematologic examination, respectively. Serum was harvested and tested for the presence of Chlamydophila felis antibodies using a commercially available ELISA test kit. The results of which were interpreted using an digital image software scanner and expressed the results as quantitative titer levels. Results showed that 15/42 (36%) cats have serologic evidence of exposure to Cp. felis, higher than what have been reported in domestic cats. Of these, seven were males and eight were females twelve were adults and three were juveniles. Hematological analysis primarily showed neutrophilia in seropositive cats.
