Abstract

Captured Image Surface Area is a new way in obtaining the live weight of an animal through digital image analysis. The objectives of the study were to determine the correlation between body weight and body measurements of hybrid pigs, to determine the correlation between body weight and captured image surface areas from one dimensional, two dimensional and three dimensional views of the animal, to test the accuracy of body measurements and captured image surface areas from the obtained actual body weight and to formulate linear regression formula for weight determination of TOPIGS. Midgirth had the highest correlation coefficient among other body measurements against the actual body weight of the growing hybrid pigs with weights 10-50 kilograms that can be predicted with the developed regression model BW = -4.854 + .474 (MG). In using Captured Image Surface Area, one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional surface areas were found to have to have high degree of correlation with the actual body weight of the growing hybrid pigs. Three-dimensional CISA, specifically the hindt-top-side dimensions, exhibits the strongest linear relationship with the actual body weight of the animal among all the independent variables used that can be predicted using the regression formula BW = 4.240 + .115 (FTS) - .060 (HTS). In general, the software ?Image J®? has a potential for estimating the actual body weight of the animal, however precision is essential. Fixed angle for the photos or videos should be set and, there should be uniform placement of markers around the body of the animal.
