Abstract

The farm practice has given the student the chance to put into practice the knowledge he gained from the university and at the same time performed and participate in all the activities done in the farm. The student was granted of experience working with other people and how to operate a swine farm. Many swine farm operations were evaluated and documented. The student was able to analyze the different strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the farm operation. Based on the analysis performed, the farm has high farrowing index, short weaning to breeding interval and high average birth weight. On the other hand, weaknesses such as high number of stillborn, inaccurate record keeping and low litter size born alive were identified. It was then recommended that the farm should restrict feeds during before the EDF or substitute the feed with high fiber diet. It was also recommended to have a proper record keeping and additional farrowing attendant to prevent crashing and suffocation of the litters. The farm practice was conducted from July 6, 2015 to July 31, 2015 at Rocky Farm Inc. Barangay Quisao, Pililia, Rizal.
