Abstract

Household electricity consumption in Tanauan City, Batangas was estimated through a modified linear-logarithmic model. A total of 110 households were interviewed. The factors that appeared to significantly affect electricity consumption are total wattage, income, and urbanity. Through estimating the income elasticity, electricity was proven to be a necessity and a normal good. The data showed that there are minimal differences between urban and rural households with regards to socio-demographic profile (age, household size, income, expenditure, and dependency ratio) and consumption and expenditure for electricity. However, urban households were found to have higher profile values. The results from this study are useful in establishing a more efficient service for electricity providers.
