Abstract

The purebred Santa Gertrudis operation on the C. J. Yulo Ranch at Canlubang, Laguna, was analyzed in terms of its location, organization and management.

Analysis of the breeding records kept by the ranch from 1954 to 1965 revealed that the purebred Santa Gertrudis cow-her, under the level of management employed by the C. J. Yulo Ranch, was most productive when the cows were from 8 to 10 years old. The entire cow-herd had average calving and weaning percentage of 67 and 58, respectively.

Pre-weaning deaths of calves were greatly influenced by climatic season since cows were allowed to calve anywhere in the open field. More calves died during the wet than during the dry season.
